Coming into hospital can be an unsettling experience.
We want to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible by ensuring you get the privacy and dignity you’re entitled to.
Men and women in our hospitals and inpatient facilities are cared for separately.
The room where you sleep will only have members of the same sex. You will also find same-sex toilets and bathrooms close to your bed.
In exceptional circumstances, it may be necessary to share with members of the opposite sex. This will only happen if it’s in your overall best interest. For example, if your treatment required urgent access to specialist equipment. Some people also choose to share.
We’ve provided more training for our staff to improve the way we care for and respect our patients and service users.
We also publish reports every six months to make sure we continue to deliver support and treatment in a way that ensures your privacy and dignity.
If you feel unhappy about your privacy or dignity while in our care, please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to help.
We want to make sure any issues or problems are quickly resolved, and telling us about your experience will help us to do this, even if it feels like a small or minor issue.
You can also speak to our Complaints and Patient Experience Team who can offer confidential advice.
Please note, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was formed in 2024 when Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, Solent NHS Trust and some services from Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust merged to form a new organisation. You may find some documents reference our legacy organisations. New versions for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare will be available soon.
