Ravenswood House is for people with serious mental illness and/or personality disorder who need to receive their care in a secure environment. Ravenswood House is comprised of three medium secure wards and two low secure wards.

Most of our patients have either committed a criminal offence, or have challenging behaviour.  We admit patients from high secure hospitals, local psychiatric hospitals, prisons and the courts.

Ravenswood provides an innovative range of services focusing on recovery.

The teams on each of the following wards comprise of a multi disciplinary team made up of nurses, support workers, occupational therapists, psychologists and psychiatrist all of whom are based at Ravenswood House. Our team will work closely with patients throughout their stay and aim improve their quality of life through a safe and secure environment which is tailored to meet a patient’s individual needs. We do this through a range of treatments, therapies and services, which are provided by our multi-skilled teams.

We have five wards at Ravenswood – where you stay will depend on what stage of treatment you are in and your current health and wellbeing.

Malcolm Faulk Ward , Mary Graham Ward and Lyndhurst Ward are medium secure wards, while Meon Valley Ward and Ashurst Ward are low secure wards.

Some of our wards help people who are acutely unwell. We have intensive care areas for those needing specialist and intensive support. This type of care is primarily provided on Malcolm Faulk Ward for patients in medium security. Other wards, such as Mary Graham Ward and Lyndhurst Ward provide ongoing treatment and assessment.

Ashurst Ward and Meon Valley Ward are both low security ward. More acute care is primarily provided on Ashurst Ward and Meon Valley Ward focuses on rehabilitation; this ward is often used before you are discharged into the community or a different service.

Inside the unit we have a variety of facilities, including:

  • Restaurant
  • Patient shop
  • Patient clothes shop
  • Patient library

Our Carer Liaison Team is here to support families and carers from the very start of a person’s admission.

We understand that this can be a worrying and emotional time, and that carers may feel uncertain or overwhelmed. Our role is to offer reassurance, clear Information, and a friendly, consistent point of contact during what can often feel like a difficult and unfamiliar process.

The team provides carers with a named contact who can explain what admission means, answer questions, and help carers understand the next steps in care. We support open and respectful communication with clinical teams where appropriate and offer guidance and signposting to further support. We also provide opportunities for carers to connect with others through quarterly carer forums and monthly carer coffee mornings, creating a safe space to share experiences, ask questions, and feel less alone.

Throughout admission, treatment, and transition, we work in partnership with families to ensure carers feel listened to, supported, and appropriately involved, while always respecting patient confidentiality, safety, and individual needs.
