An adult male acute mental health inpatient ward, which has 18 beds (and one additional emergency bed). The ward cares for men who have a functional mental illness – such as depression, a personality disorder or schizophrenia.

Hamtun ward is our 10 bedded all male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

This unit is for those requiring intensive support, when their needs cannot be safely met on the acute ward. The male PICU is Southern Health's only resource of this type for male patients requiring this level of care within the Hampshire area.

Our ethos is to provide short stay intensive support with supported step down to the local area acute ward.

Our female adult acute mental health inpatient ward, which accommodates 16 women with a functional mental illness – such as depression, a personality disorder or schizophrenia. The focus is on recovery and supporting female patients from the Southampton area requiring acute inpatient mental health care.

Abbey ward is the Trust's first all-female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). It has 10 beds and is a key resource for female patients requiring this level of intensive care within the Hampshire area.
