Treetops Sexual Assault Referral Centre

About the service

Treetops SARC.png

We offer medical care and practical help to anyone who has been raped or sexually assaulted. We can also refer or signpost you to services for emotional support.

We are here to help, never to judge.

The Crisis Worker team at Treetops provide advice, independent advocacy, and support with practical matters, confidentially over the phone or by email. They can introduce you to other support services, for example Rape Crisis and Victim Support.

Depending on the type of assault and when it happened, we can offer a Forensic Medical Examination to collect evidence. The examination is important because we want to look after your medical needs as well as collecting forensic evidence. You may be at risk of pregnancy or Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s); we can help you accessing emergency contraception and support you in getting appropriate medical care.

The service we provide is free to access and confidential.

You can attend Treetops SARC and access our services regardless of your decision to report the assault to the Police.

We will only share your details with other services or agencies with your consent unless there is a concern that you or anyone else is at risk of serious harm. We have a legal duty to share information with other services if you are under 18.

Under 18’s can also access support from our Young Person’s Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (YPISVAs) to ensure you receive the best possible care. They offer emotional and practical support, advocacy and assistance with health appointments and attend meetings with clients after their initial visit to the SARC.

What we do

Our Treetops Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) provides a supportive environment for victims of rape or sexual assault/abuse in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Please visit the service website here.

The service has specially trained female crisis workers who will be available to you from the moment you contact Treetops. They can provide emotional support and explain all the options that may be available to you. They will support you in whatever decisions you make and provide information on other support services in your area. If you are not sure if you want to report to the police, they can talk this through with you.

A forensic medical examination by a specialist doctor may be appropriate. This examination will be carried out as sympathetically as possible, and can be undertaken whether the police are involved or not. The examination may include, where appropriate, pregnancy testing, emergency contraception and referral to sexual health services for STI testing.

The crisis worker can refer you to an Independent Sexual Violence Adviser (ISVA) who is based near to your address. The ISVA for young people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight is based at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre. Police interview facilities are available. Most of all - we will listen to you.
