The Forensic Community Learning Disability Team supports individuals with a learning disability who have committed an offence or who display offending behaviours but have not been convicted.
About the service
A range of healthcare specialists make up the Forensic Community Learning Disability Team.
There are specialists in psychology, psychiatry, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, as well as nurses, healthcare support workers, social workers and administrators.
What we do
The team works to develop life skills and aid the rehabilitation of individuals through a range of therapeutic treatments, both on a group and one-to-one basis.
These include:
- positive behaviour support and functional behaviour assessment
- sex offender treatment programmes
- anger management courses
- social reasoning and decision making skills
- fire setting treatment programmes
- support for probation officers to work with offenders with a learning disability.
Accessing the service
This service is accessed via referral and people can be referred in a number of ways. These include:
- via healthcare teams
- community teams for people with learning disabilities
- intensive support teams
- adult social services (for repatriation cases)
- commissioners
- courts or prison
- police
- National Offender Management Service (NOMS)
- Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).
