The Keeping Safe Programme is a psychoeducational intervention which aims to provide useful information about your eating disorder symptoms and encourage you to start to make some changes as you begin to move on from your eating disorder. The programme consists of a series of podcasts and a workbook. It was developed by Dr Madeleine Tatham, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, and her colleagues at Cambridgeshire & Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust and is reproduced here with their permission.
The aims of the Keeping Safe Programme are:
- to provide information about eating disorders
- to promote a better understanding of the effects of eating disorders
- to give guidance and harm minimisation tips to help you keep yourself safe
- to start working towards recovery from the moment of assessment
The podcasts and workbook follow a psychoeducational approach which cover various aspects of your eating disorder, such as the symptoms and their effects. There are seven podcasts with additional options for Podcasts 2, 3 and 5. In each podcast, you will be signposted to additional information if you wish to learn more and given options about which podcasts to listen to next, depending on your symptoms. Please start with Podcast 1 and feel free to opt to follow the signposts which best match your symptoms.
The workbook is intended to be used in conjunction with the podcasts. Please use the dropdown below to download a copy of the most relevant workbook before following the link to Podcast 1. If you would prefer a paper copy, please contact the service on 023 8231 2000.
We recommend:
- You work through the workbook and one podcast at a time
- Give yourself time between each section
- Complete each task in each section before moving on to the next podcast
