About the service
The service aims to minimise the negative effects and to maximise positive outcomes in terms of independence, quality of life and reduction in psychological distress for people with an acquired brain injury.
The team work with patients in Southampton City and West Hampshire as well as Portsmouth City, Fareham, Gosport and South East Hampshire.
What we do
The Neuropsychology team consists of clinical psychologists who provide specialist assessment, rehabilitation and psychological therapy for the cognitive, emotional and behaviour sequelae of Acquired Brain Injury.
The service accepts patients who are:
- Adults of working age
- Diagnosed with acquired brain injury as the primary condition
- Living in their own home and not resident in a nursinig or care home
- Not actively abusing alcohol or other substances.
The service does not currently provide input for people with the following presentations:
- Progressive neurological conditions e.g. Multiple Sclerosis (in the East only)
- Spinal cord injury
- Brain tumour
- Primary diagnosis of epilepsy
- Individuals presenting with extreme behavioural challenges, such as verbal and physical aggression.
Accessing the service
Referral can be made by GP or any neuro professional, by letter, referral form or in the East email to SNHS.Neuropsychology@nhs.net
Referrers are asked to ensure that the patient is aware of and in agreement with the referral.
