An incredible milestone has been reached with the launch of the first online academy in the country dedicated to recruitment, development and research for mental health professionals in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

As part of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, the CAMHS Academy is a dedicated platform providing information and resources relating to working in that field. It has been developed to promote opportunities for roles, provide knowledge of services, and resources and training and development for the current and future workforce across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

By actively delivering a work-based learning culture, the CAMHS Academy will support creative career pathways that can be developed alongside opportunities for those wishing to reach their goals and aspirations. Staff can realise their individual professional potential and remain in the NHS longer term.

From mindfulness classes to Staff Networks, the site also showcases the health and wellbeing initiatives available, promoting a range of benefits to help staff maintain and enjoy a work-life balance.

Claire Robinson, Clinical Director at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We recognise that a healthy, engaged, and supported workforce also brings positive benefits for the people we care for. Through the ongoing provision of the Academy, we aim to showcase the huge variety of roles and training opportunities available within CAMHS, enabling those interested in the service to see where they fit into the multi-skilled, dynamic teams across Hampshire and Isle of Wight.”

The Academy offers a rotational programme for newly-qualified-nurses to work across three disciplines within CAMHS on a 22-week rotation. During that time, they are supported by a mentor, underpinned by competencies as well as completing, alongside the rotation, a Level 5 leadership qualification.

Claire Robinson added: “I would encourage everyone working in CAMHS, and those who wish to join any of our services within CAMHS, to look through our website and see what the Academy can offer you. The tube map is a great starting place to broaden your understanding of career pathways and opportunities, along with the resources page to explore wider and deeper learning.  We are continuously developing the Academy with new training programmes and role opportunities, so please continue to check back for the latest updates.”
