Lymington Endoscopy Unit performs a range of endoscopy procedures to investigate symptoms or monitor a condition.

There are 12 trolley bays in the main ward area and two side rooms with en-suite facilities.  Separate male and female lists are accommodated within the department in order to ensure the utmost privacy, dignity and respect for our patients. Disabled facilities are available.

What we do

Lymington Endoscopy Unit is a stand-alone service providing an efficient, safe, high quality service to the local population in a timely manner.  To ensure that this is achieved, each patient referral is reviewed by an appropriate member of the team.

An endoscopy is a procedure where the inside of the body is examined using a narrow flexible tube with a light and camera on the end.

Please click on the links below for more information about the procedures which are performed at the Unit:

  • Gastroscopy - examination of the oesophagus, stomach and first section of duodenum

  • Flexible Sigmoidoscopy - examination of the lower section of the large bowel

  • Colonoscopy - examination of the large bowel. Find out what happens during a Colonoscopy here.

  • Bronchoscopy - examination of the lungs

  • Flexible cystoscopy - examination of the bladder (leaflet for males and females available)

The procedures performed at Lymington Hospital are usually to investigate symptoms or monitor a condition.  The unit has strong links with University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and patients requiring more complex procedures will be referred to the Endoscopy Unit at Southampton General Hospital.
