Isle of Wight Community Mental Health Services serve the local community to provide a comprehensive assessment and range of treatments and services to adults of all ages with mental health problems, some with complex needs. The Access to Intervention Team conduct clinical assessments to support the triage of mental health presentations.
About the service
The Access to Intervention Team is the Isle of Wight’s mental health assessment service for people aged 18 and over.
Appointments are by pre-booked appointment only. We are not a walk-in service.
Referrals to the service are made through NHS 111, your GP surgery and other professional agencies.
After we receive your referral, a member of the team will usually contact you to arrange a telephone assessment. This is a supportive conversation to help us understand your situation and what kind of help may be most appropriate for you.
If a further assessment is needed, we will arrange a structured face-to-face appointment. During this, we will talk with you about your mental health and wellbeing, and any areas of your life that may be affecting how you feel.
- This might include:
- your current difficulties
- your mental health history
- your physical health and wellbeing
- your family or support network
- work or social circumstances
- alcohol or substance use
We understand that discussing these areas can sometimes feel difficult, and you can take things at your own pace. Together, we will consider what support may be helpful.
Following your assessment, we will help you access the most appropriate support.
This may include:
- referral to specialist NHS mental health services if further support is needed
- referral to NHS Talking Therapies if this is appropriate
