About the service
The Child Health Information Service (CHIS) for Hampshire & Isle of Wight plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of public health interventions for children and young people.
The main aim of CHIS is to support organisations that provide specified public health interventions to ensure that:
- All children aged 0–19
- Young people aged 0–25 with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) are offered the public health interventions for which they are eligible.
What we do
CHIS delivers this by:
- Maintaining a single, accurate and comprehensive health record for all eligible children and young people.
This includes recording immunisations, screening results, and proactively investigating and resolving gaps in data. - Working collaboratively with partner organisations responsible for delivering public health interventions.
This includes undertaking proactive work in line with locally agreed processes and commissioner requirements, such as scheduling and issuing immunisation invitations, sending results letters, and notifying relevant services of children moving into and out of the area.
Through strong partnership working, CHIS ensures that children and young people are appropriately identified, invited, and followed up for essential public health interventions.
Improving Outcomes
Through this work, CHIS aims to:
- Improve public health outcomes for children and young people
- Support timely access to essential health services
- Help reduce health inequalities across Hampshire & Isle of Wight
