Community MSK Better health day is an event where we are bringing together all our professionals and multiple specialities, with an aim, to meet your needs in one place at one time. This includes our clinical specialists and the wider community services such as; Age UK, Working towards wellbeing, Isle of Wight Diabetes, 1Leisure, West Wight sports centre, Patient Experience Team, Foot Healthcare Practitioners, Mental Health Practitioners including Isle Talk (IAPT), Talking Therapies, BH Live, Fit4Her, Pelvic Health Physiotherapy, and so many more.
Video below is an example of what you can expect on the day at one of our participating sites.
On the day you may see several different healthcare professionals depending on your needs and wishes. Attending this event will give you quicker access to the right people during your booked appointment slot. You can find out the dates and information on booking process for your specific area by clicking on a drop down box that represents your area below.
The day will start with a clinical 1:1 conversation with a Physiotherapist and if indicated a clinical examination with a Physiotherapist or Podiatrist as is appropriate. By helping us better understand how your problem affects you and what matters to you the most, you will allow us to direct you to the most appropriate members of our team or services.
You will then be directed to see the relevant people to provide support, education and advice or treatment from our Physiotherapy or Podiatry teams or the wider community of healthcare professionals. You may see multiple people and be guided to multiple rooms depending on what matters most to you and what you would like from our services on the day and beyond.
If you have accessibility or sensory needs, please see the accessible features section or call us to discuss if the day is right for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Please wear loose-fitting clothing that you will be comfortable being assessed in. For example, this may be a pair of shorts if you have knee pain or wish to do some rehabilitation in the gym. It may be a short-sleeved top if you have an elbow or shoulder concern for us to look at. You will not need to get undressed at any stage, though it is often useful to see the area that is causing you the concern if appropriate.
Please consider what you'd like to change and how the people on the day may help. Please consider if you have any specific requests that you can make clear to the first person you see on the day such that we can make sure we support what is important to you. you can even let us know in advance if you'd rather.
There is no time limit to your appointments, you will have as long as you need. Each person’s appointment will be different, but people typically spend 45-90 minutes at the event, though some may spend 2-3 hours. You will see the right person on this day to avoid having to wait for a referral to another service separately but there may be a wait on the day so please be prepared for this. There will be some light refreshments available including tea, coffee, water and a selection of biscuits, fruit and crisps.
There are multiple participating sites across Hampshire and Isle of Wight, please check your local area above for details on which site you will be able to access.
The various rooms within each one of the sites will support one to one consultations, treatment and rehabilitation, advice and guidance, taster classes, health checks and access to our wider community services.
Once you have had your first clinical conversation and 1:1 assessment, you will make a decision alongside the clinician as to what can be offered next. You could be guided through the department to the wider team for advice, support, treatment or further assessment.
Our stewards and signs will help guide you through the space and the process.
From people's feedback so far we have been able to make changes to improve everyone's experience. If you can offer some feedback and advice we would be most grateful. You will be given an opportunity to feedback on paper in person on the day. You may also be sent a text following the event, with a link to a questionnaire.
