Make a difference in a way that feels right for you
Volunteering is about people - connection, kindness, and making a positive difference in someone’s day. Whether you want to give something back, share your experiences, meet new people, or build your confidence, there are many ways to get involved.
Everyone brings something unique. You don’t need special qualifications or experience its your time, perspective and willingness to be there for others are what matter most.
We will support you to find a role that feels comfortable, meaningful, and right for you.

Volunteering can make a difference to others — and to you.
As a volunteer, you can:
-
Help people feel seen, heard and valued: Sometimes, a conversation or a friendly presence can mean a lot
-
Offer human connection and support: Being there for someone, even in a small way, can make their day better
-
Share your experiences in a meaningful way: Your lived experience or personal journey may help others feel less alone
-
Build confidence at your own pace: Volunteering can be a gentle way to try something new and grow
-
Improve your wellbeing and sense of purpose: Feeling connected and valued can have a positive impact on how you feel
-
Be part of a community: You’ll meet people and become part of something supportive and inclusive
Volunteer roles are designed to enhance the experience of people using services, complement staff teams, and create more opportunities for connection and engagement.
Examples include:
-
Supporting activities or social sessions: Helping with creative, wellbeing or recreational activities that encourage participation and enjoyment
-
Spending time with people who may feel isolated: Offering conversation, companionship, and a friendly presence to help people feel less alone
-
Helping with groups or wellbeing sessions: Supporting staff to create inclusive, welcoming spaces where people feel comfortable to join in
-
Offering peer or lived experience support: Sharing understanding and empathy based on personal experience, helping others feel heard and supported
-
Supporting events or engagement work: Helping with community events, feedback sessions, or involvement activities that shape and improve services
All roles are clearly defined, supported, and shaped to ensure they are safe, meaningful, and appropriate.
Volunteering should fit around your life, not the other way around.
- You can give as much or as little time as feels right
- There are flexible options, including one-off or regular roles
- We will work with you to find something manageable and comfortable
Even a small amount of time can make a meaningful difference.
You will not be expected to do this alone — we’ll support you throughout your volunteering journey.
We will:
-
Take time to understand what matters to you: Helping you find a role that suits your interests, confidence and goals
-
Prepare you for your role: With simple, clear training so you feel ready
-
Give you a named contact: Someone you can talk to if you have questions or need support
-
Check in with you regularly: Making sure you feel comfortable and things are going well
-
Create a welcoming and inclusive environment: Where you feel respected, valued and able to be yourself
-
Cover agreed expenses where appropriate: So volunteering is accessible to you
We’ll support you through everything you need to get started.
Some roles may include:
- A conversation to get to know you
- References
- A DBS check (if needed)
- Basic training
We will explain each step clearly and support you at your pace.
Volunteering is about respect, kindness and working together.
We ask that you:
- Are open and honest about your availability
- Respect people’s privacy and boundaries
- Treat everyone with kindness, dignity and understanding
- Ask for help if you feel unsure
- Share your feedback and experiences
You don’t need to be perfect — just willing to learn and be there for others.
