Say hello to our London Marathon Runners 2027

We are delighted to introduce the incredible team of runners who will be taking on the challenge of Marathon 2027. Their commitment, determination and enthusiasm reflect the very best of our community. Over the coming months, they will be training hard, raising awareness and supporting our shared cause every step of the way. We are immensely proud of each of them and look forward to following their journey as they prepare for this exciting challenge. Please join us in congratulating and supporting our runners as they lace up their trainers and get ready for Marathon 2027!

I am Tertian, a South African born, now living in the UK. Family is everything, my family live in South Africa and I am married to my beautiful wife Katie. I am a secondary Teacher. I am social and I surround myself with people that are like minded and positive. I play hockey, I do crossfit, I'm passionate about all sports and a massive Traitors fan!

I chose to apply for Brighterway because I wanted my miles to go beyond a personal fitness goal and directly benefit the services that local people rely on during their hardest moments.

Brighterway funds the vital extras that standard NHS funding cannot cover from peaceful therapeutic spaces and creative activities to specialist wellbeing projects. Knowing that every step I take helps bring comfort, dignity, and hope to patients and NHS staff across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight gives me the ultimate motivation to push through to the finish line.

Having gone through difficult times myself and experienced the power of talking therapy, this platform gives me the incredible opportunity to raise awareness for others who are struggling. By raising funds and sharing my story, I want to help break down the stigma, encourage open conversations, and remind everyone that help is out there. Together, we can ensure no one has to face their darkest days alone, and that brighter, healthier tomorrows are always within reach!

I've always wanted to complete the London Marathon and, after several unsuccessful attempts through the public ballot, I saw the opportunity to apply for a charity place with Brighterway. As a charity closely linked to both my local community and organisation, I knew I had to apply.

Having recently completed my degree, it felt like the perfect time to take on a new challenge. Being successful in securing a place with Team Brighterway feels like perfect timing. Taking on 26.2 miles will be a first for me. I've previously completed a half marathon and swum to the Isle of Wight, so I know this is another challenge that will push me physically and mentally, but I'm excited for the journey ahead. My 9-year-old is also very excited and already keen to start riding her bike alongside me to support my training and has some fundraising ideas.

More importantly, I'm proud to be raising money for Brighterway, a charity that makes a real difference to patients, service users, carers and families across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Working within the NHS, I see first-hand the impact that additional support, opportunities and resources can have on people and communities, and I'm delighted to be able to support a cause that helps make those opportunities possible.

I have been working within the trust since 2021, and I am extremely passionate in supporting in any way that I can to improve resources and care for those that access and work within our services. With Brighterway being integral in supporting and raising funds for vital extras that support care and recovery, support NHS teams and work to make everyone feel seen, comforted and cared for - it really was a no brainer to want to apply and run the London Marathon to help raise money for such an incredible cause and to give back to the amazing community that I have been a part of for over 5 years!

I wanted to apply for one of the charity places with Brighterway because it has been a dream of mine to run the London Marathon, and running for this charity is a meaningful way to not only live out this dream of mine, but do it whilst also raising money for this incredible cause, it feels like my own way of really saying thank you for everything that Brighterway, and HIOW NHS does! Let's go team Brighterway!!!!!"

I chose to run the London Marathon for Brighterway because its focus on making life brighter for everyone that accesses the trust whether that is a patient or a staff member. As a Children’s Community Nurse within the trust,  I’ve seen how important compassionate care and the right support can be in helping people through some of the most challenging periods of their lives and having the right spaces and tools to do that.

I was motivated to apply for one of Brighterway’s charity places because I wanted the challenge of running the London Marathon to have a purpose beyond my own personal achievement. The opportunity to raise money and awareness for a charity that helps make a meaningful difference to people’s recovery, wellbeing and quality of life felt like the perfect reason to take on 26.2 miles. It is a real privilege to represent Brighterway on marathon day and to know that every mile is contributing to such a worthwhile cause.
